Melbourne has unparalleled enthusiasm for promoting the advancement of the country’s culture, arts and music scene. As a testament for the city’s efforts in bringing these scene to a world-class level, there are several events that were created to provide a platform where brilliant artists and performers can showcase their craft such as the upcoming Melbourne International Jazz Festival.

Considered to be a tremendous and diverse jazz music festival in the country, the Melbourne International Jazz Festival brings together the best musicians known in the genre and also presents so many free events and programs that the appreciating public can enjoy.

Taking place on 4-13 June 2011, the Melbourne International Jazz Festival will feature over 400 performers in more than 120 events that include 46 free events, 20 Australian premieres, 16 Festival exclusives, six world premieres and 12 national and international collaborations. The Festival is scheduled to be held on different venues around the city.

The festival will be headlined by brilliant international guests such as the legendary tenor saxophonist Sonny Rollins. Performing for the first time in the festival are the incredibly talented Sun Ra Arkestra, Chicago-based brass group Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, as well as German bands such as Faust and Krautrock. The Festival will also feature the veteran jazz composer and alto saxophonist Lee Konitz and the outstanding jazz bassist Ron Carter.

Jazz enthusiasts will also admire the talented line up of local artists which include Paul Grabowsky Trio, James Morrison, Julien Wilson, Tex Perkins, Eddie Perfect, The Raah Project, Jamie Oehlers, Scott Tinkler, Katie Noonan, Simon Baker and many more.
