2011 Melbourne International Film Festival

There’s always something to look forward to in Melbourne. This winter season, guests at our Melbourne accommodation at Central Apartments and Hotels can catch some of the best films from around the globe at the 60th Melbourne International Film Festival.

Considered as one of the most iconic events in Melbourne, the Melbourne International Festival plays hosts to fabulous array of cinematic masterpieces from over 50 countries. For seventeen days, guests at our Melbourne apartments can enjoy not only excellent films but will also get a chance to take part on the exciting events and parties happening during the entire Festival.

Celebrating its 60th annual run, the Melbourne International Film Festival boasts of its rich history and significance that has been ingrained in the city’s arts and culture. Since its inauguration in 1951, the Festival has become one of the most famous film events in Melbourne. As one of the oldest and largest film festivals in the country, the Festival screens approximately 400 films from different countries and also features the biggest showcase of Australian cinemas. It is also well attended and has attracted over 180,000 guests and spectators.

Taking place on 21 July to 7 August 2011 at Forum Theatre, the annual Melbourne International Film Festival will present a number of programs that will showcase the ingenious creations from both distinguished and up and coming film makers. Guests at our Melbourne hotels can catch popular events and programs that includes International Panorama, Documentaries and Backbeat. You can also watch their fascinating documentary showcase such as Sporting Life as well as Networked which is a mixed fiction and documentary program.

Aside from film screenings, the Melbourne International Film Festival will also provide workshops, mini competitions as well as free events and parties. The Festival will also hand out several awards and recognitions for outstanding films and individuals.
